Pay tribute to Galileo Galilei, who almost 400 years ago use for the first time the telescope for their studies
The United Nations General Assembly has declared today as the 2009 "International Year of Astronomy," according to a resolution that has been received from Italy and paid tribute to Galileo Galilei, who in 1609 used for the first time the telescope for astronomical use.
As reported by the Ministry of Education and Science said in a statement, the International Year of Astronomy 2009 is an initiative of the International Astronomical Union (IAU), which is sponsored by Unesco and the UN, and which have already been incorporated 99 countries.
The calendar 2009 for the "International Year of Astronomy" will include presentations outdoors, observing nights, educational workshops in schools, museums and special programs in various activities for children, which seeks to "convey the fascination with the universe" and stimulate the interest of the society for Astronomy and Science, said the note.
In Spain, coordination of the event is the responsibility of the National Commission on Mathematics and is a collaboration of the Ministry of Education and Science, the Spanish Astronomical Society and other institutions in this field.
